"Why Wait When You Can Catch Lahontan Cutthroat Trout Now ?" 2/12/22

I think they beat us to it with the ladder game. Note the 2”x4”’s securing the ladders. PC: Interwed

The trout are lining up and filing in by the numbers and every day is different. With the odd spring weather, we have been having everything is outta whack! From the flowers and plants, animals, fish and everything in between. We have been seeing large numbers of summits and colored up cutthroat! While the sun is high all it takes is a good ripple caused by a little wind and one can have an outstanding day. Don't be too crazy burning holes into that bobber. These fish often eat best when you look away and take in the outstanding scenery.

The last week we have seen some truly hot thick fish and extremely nice weather and it has made for some very enjoyable days. The fish are pushing in and feeding heavily as they put on their spring coats and get ready for spawn. Now is the time to pack on the extra weight before sexy time. Fish are still spread all throughout the lake and will continue to be throughout the season. If solitude is more your cup of tea, then go explore and venture out amongst the 30 miles of west shore we have to explore.

Teamwork always prevails ! Matuka Joe Contaldi putting that monster net to use.

Now that we have pushed into the season a little further and closer to spring the fish have been going bonkers for midges! Ditch the leeches and stick your favorite chironomid patterns on and go to work! Work?! Yup, don't just let that bobber sit idle. Give those bugs some life. Slow roll em in, crappie pop that bobber, give it the ol panfish pop! Bugs don't just lie idle in the water column, so treat your flies the same way and give them some life. In the nice weather the midges have been clouded up in the early morning throughout the day. Yes, the leech will still catch some fish here and there but the midge will outrun them and fish more consistent through the rest of the season. Retrieving buggers, beetles and boobies has been picking up and producing some really nice fish through the day as well. They are hungry and packing it on before spawn. It's go time!

Defintely a purdy one, Suns out Guns out

First fish ever, not a bad way to start things off

The fishing is going to do nothing but accelerate from here on out as we slide into spring mode. With the summits pushed in we are seeing a much better bite ratio than last month with this nice weather. We have a shift in weather in the forecast as we keep our fingers crossed for some much-needed precipitation in the area. As fishing is heating up in a major way a storm will really step on the gas and get this fishery going wide open! The fish are piled up and pushing in, especially when the conditions are just right. All it takes is that one fish in this large inland sea, as cutthroat trout in the double-digit range roam the ledges and drop offs throughout the day. There's a reason this world class destination fishery is talked about so much this time of year. It's go time! Are you ready?
