MORGAN KANE PRESIDENT & HEAD GUIDE

Pyramid fly co guide morgan kane holding a colorful lahontan cutthroat trout at pyramid lake nevada

From PFC supporter, to guide, to President. Morgan has shown his love for Pyramid Fly Co and the high standards that are expected from Capt. Rob.

Morgan was born in Sonoma County, CA.  He grew up in the country out of the hustle and bustle of the city life with the Russian River and Lake Sonoma in his backyard.  He was able to do some very convenient exploring as a youngster and became quite the outdoorsman.  He started fishing at a young age, every vacation or hike were always accompanied by a fishing pole for Morgan. He displayed a passion for the outdoors and being on the water at a young age.  When his father would get off work and go searching for Morgan after school all over town he could often be found fishing in the river, in his new shoes.  This was way before the modern conveniences of cell phones.  Needless to say, his father had to often go searching for his for his boys after work.

Morgan moved to the Sierras in ‘04 to give up the weekend warrior lifestyle so he could snowboard daily and pursue what he thought was his dream. He soon discovered that the mountains were not only a great place for winter sports but the abundance of creeks, rivers, and lakes gave way to excellent year-round fishing. His friends are still out snowboarding and he’s out chasing the next fish. Today, the snowboards collect dust while the fly rods get used and abused. He has been fishing Pyramid since the early 2000’s and has met some really great people at the lake over the years. When he is not out on the water he is found setting hooks in his sleep after a good day at the lake.

Morgan has been fishing for over 35 years. He has been fly fishing for over a decade, and started guiding in 2014.  He has worked with all ages from his niece at age 6 to groups of women in their 60-70’s learning to fly fish for the first time.  His mother laughs when she receives pictures from him. Where most mothers receive grand baby pictures to look over, she receives beautiful fish and landscape pictures from Morgan. Fly fishing for Morgan is more than just catching fish.  It’s about enjoying the moment and taking everything else in while being outside. Morgan has a calm demeanor to help teach and let others understand how to work the water, and the patience to share this love he has for fly fishing. It's about enjoying the moment, the time spent outside with others and sharing his passion with others.  To teach this art and skill to others is where Morgan’s level of expertise shines.

COLE HILDAHL GUIDE

PFC has watched this gentleman. Cole was born and raised here in Nevada. He has been hunting and fishing since he was old enough to wear snow pants and cast a fly rod. Cole has packed, guided, and hunted in AK and fished all over the West. Cole eats, sleeps, and breaths fishing and hunting. Cole started fishing with his dad since he was old enough to beg to go. Both in float tubes and on a ladder, Cole’s dad put him through the work of earning every fish. This has translated well for his guiding career here at PFC.

CADE SCHWENDER GUIDE

Battle born, Cade Schwender is a native to Nevada. Fly fishing is his passion and he has a keen sense for it. Cade started fly fishing around 9 years old. He started at the ponds on the golf course by his home. It was a weekly thing that he would come racing home on his bike because he was kicked out by security.

Growing up fishing all over Northern Nevada and California, you would find Cade at lakes, rivers, creeks and the ocean. You would be able to find Cade at Pyramid every weekend the entire fishing season since he was 10 years old. He had several mentors that he fished with and taught him the way of the lake. It wasn't uncommon to find Cade and Koda, his German Shepherd out on the beaches at Pyramid, cleaning up the trash people left behind. Cade has always had a great respect for Pyramid Lake and the amazing Lahontan Cutthroat Trout that call the lake home and when he’s not there he’s running banks at many local Stillwater’s in Northern California. And northeastern Nevada. With 8 years of fishing. I’ve always had a passion for helping others on the water. And I’m excited to leave every client with a smile and hopefully a fish or or two every trip on the water.

JACOB ERICKSON DIRECTOR OF MARKETING

Jacob’s entire life was once basketball. While he fished every once in a while, most of his time was spent traveling and playing against some of the nation’s best competition or training to do so. Jacob developed a strong understanding of how to work as a team from a young age. Knee injuries took over thus bringing an end to his basketball career. It wasn’t until his first trip to Pyramid Lake where he truly fell in love with fly fishing and his addiction took off from there.

Jacob joined our team in the spring of 2022 to help take Pyramid Fly Co to new heights. Jacob graduated from Boise State University with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Marketing. Jacob has spent many years fishing Pyramid Lake which led him to eventually move from Boise to Reno. Jacob is now able to be more hands on with our marketing efforts while residing within close proximity to Pyramid Lake. Jacob has now been able to spend a full season with our team on the lake fine tuning the best ways for hunting down the worlds largest cutthroat trout and helping capture the moments as they happen.

From a young age, Nico has been in pursuit of fish of all types. He began fishing while exploring inland and offshore waters in Southern California, the Colorado River that flows through Utah and Arizona, and rivers and lakes in the Pacific Northwest. His first trout was a cutthroat out of the stillwaters of Oregon. Ever since then, he has chased this species with a feverish pitch, hence his passion for Pyramid Lake.

Nico’s past professional experience includes leadership positions in both the U.S. Marine Corps and U.S. Army, management roles in the action sports industry, work in the food and beverage industry, experience with Fortune 500 companies, as well as achieving certification in Lean Six Sigma. Needless to say, this prior experience combined with his passion for fly fishing naturally led Nico to fulfilling the Chief Executive Officer role with Pyramid Fly Company to assist with operations, logistics, ground support, and community outreach.

No other fishery in the world affords the mystique and magic that Pyramid Lake does, and it is a top priority for Nico that every guest of Pyramid Fly Co walks away with a fishing memory that lasts a lifetime.
