As we slide into spring the fishing for these huge cutthroat trout remains quite good. It seems like we are a bit behind our normal. The water temps are in the high 40s and the fish are eating well and fired up!

We have had some killer days on the water the last couple weeks and we don't see things slowing down to drastically anytime soon. With fish on the brain I can’t help think of these large inland sea dwelling monster trout day in and day out. They are mean, fierce, aggressive and bad ass to say the least.

Speaking of BADASS, Heather hooked up with another inland giant.

While the midge bite hasn't skipped a beat the strip bite has picked up in a hurry! The early low light hours are the best time of day to target these large carnivorous fish while retrieving flies. Keep those bugs moving! If you can’t get them to eat try speeding up your retrieve a bit. But allow those floating flies to rise in the water column with those pauses in between.

Strip, twitch, pause = Bendo !

There is something about the floating flies rising in the water column that drives these fish crazy. We've also had a bit of action stripping flies mid- day while the midge bite is a bit slow. But first and foremost, you can’t catch any fish without your flies in the water.

The past month or so the fish have been piling up around the middle of the lake as they dive into spawn mode.  The biggest groups of fish will be hanging in this area of the lake and have already started spreading out again.  With that being said, fish can and will always be found all over the entire lake.  From the far Southern end all the way to the North end.  It's a big lake!  Get out and explore some random no name beaches when you're bored or want a change of pace.

With spring in the air and the nice weather ahead we start to think of deeper water and float tubes and watermasters. As these large fish come off spawn they push back into deeper water and start chasing bait balls and packing on the pounds lost during the spawn months.

We have seen some really fat fish in the last couple months of the season.  As we slide into April we have our fingers crossed for more winter weather and large cutthroat in the shallows feeding heavily.  It's still early, and it's still really good.  Come on out and join us for a few days on the water.  Afterall, you cant catch em’ from the couch.
